“Is there any other way to spend your 4th of July then by hanging out in the backyard with friends and family enjoying delicious food on the BBQ? And what better way to commemorate Independence Day then with a few cold American Craft Brews. So get ready to fire up those grills, break out the good beer, and celebrate the 4th because we here at Beerjobber have the perfect suggestions to make the most out of your holiday BBQ.

The Traditional

Traditional BBQ foods such as Bratwurst and Hot Dogs call for light beers that won’t interfere with the flavors of a juicy brat or hot dog. American Pilsners are best in this food pairing because of their versatility food-wise and their strong drinkability, such as Desert Pilsner from Rio Grande Brewing Company.

Hamburgers require a little bit more aggressive beer, sometimes with a strong bitterness and citrus hop flavor. For this meal we suggest an American Pale Ale such as Tipperary Pale Ale from Moylan’s Brewing Company. This beer is sweetly sharp and smoothly bitter and will pair excellently with a beefier hamburger or cheeseburger on the BBQ.

Grilled Chicken

If a nice grilled chicken is on your menu for your Independence Day BBQ a nice Saison beer plays nice with the flavors of the chicken. For this we highly suggest the limited release Wasteland Elderflower Saison from Elysian Brewing Company. This is a perfect seasonal beer complete with dried elderflowers and French Saison yeast. Serve this pairing to your friends and family and you are guaranteed to receive many compliments.

Grilled Vegetables

For vegetables on the grill we suggest an Amber Lager to enhance the crispiness of grilled veggies. The Toasted Lager from Blue Point Brewing Company makes for an amazing pairing with crisp vegetables. Made from six different malts, the balanced flavor of malt and hops makes this toasted lager easy to drink with an exceptionally long-lasting smooth finish perfect for that smoked veggie taste.

No matter what your 4th of July Weekend activities are we, at Beerjobber want to wish you all a safe and Happy Independence Day. Cheers !

Yesterday and today we are at SAVOR in the beautiful National Building Museum Washington, DC. SAVOR is a reception-style sampling of sweet and savory appetizers and craft beers from several breweries where brewery owners, brewers and representatives are personally serving their beer.

We are proud that six of the breweries at SAVOR this year are on Beerjobber.com!

Blue Point,

Del Norte,

Port City,

Laurelwood,

American Brewing, and

Abbey Beverage.

We thought we’d share with you which beers they are pouring, and the food each is paired with.

Abbey Beverage:

Monk’s Ale: Paired with fava bean tapenade ricotta salata and cracker crisp. (Chef’s Notes: Look for the fava to highlight the grain in the beer.)

Monk’s Wit: Paired with citrus cured salmon, grapefruit and pistachio cream cheese. (Chef’s Notes: Classic notes of citrus play off the yeast, smoothed out by the cream cheese.)

American Brewing:

Breakaway IPA: Paired with citrus cured salmon, grapefruit and pistachio cream cheese. (Chef’s Notes: The hops brighten the salmon while the cream cheese holds the hops on the palate just long enough.)

Caboose Oatmeal Stout: Paired with coconut macaroon, whipped crème fraiche and lemon zest. (Chef’s Notes: Notice how the crème fraiche adds to the creamy notes in the stout.)

Blue Point:

Sour Cherry Imperial Stout: Paired with red velvet cake. (Chef’s Notes: Together these make a cherry velvet cake.)

White IPA: Paired with burrata on toast with arugula pesto and lemon zest. (Chef’s Notes: The lemon pulls out the white in the beer while the arugula gives definition to the IPA flavors.)

Del Norte:

Manana: Paired with heirloom tomato and cornbread cobbler. (Chef’s Notes: The bold use of malt brings out the acid in the tomato, to be quickly calmed by the cornbread.)

Orale: Paired with fava bean tapenade ricotta salata and cracker crisp. (Chef’s Notes: The lightness of hops in the beer pull out the grain flavor in the fava bean.)

Laurelwood Brewing:

Orchid: Paired with Maine lobster pot sticker, pickled pepper and green garlic relish.

Organic Free Range Red: Paired with lamb meatballs, tomato sauce and shaved ricotta. (Chef’s Notes: The robust red is accented nicely by the richness of the lamb.)

Port City Brewing:

Optimal Wit: Paired with pickled Hawaiian tombo, radish, and preserved lemon. (Chef’s Notes: The slight brine on the tombo acts as a wake up call to the palate before the wit cleanses.)

Porter: Paired with Kentucky hot brown, roasted turkey, brioche, bacon, Gruyere. (Chef’s Notes: The complex malt character zeros in on the bacon and brings out a touch of smokiness)

This narrative is written by a close friend of our Beerjobber staff, Marikay McKeon-Murphy.

On the evening of June 1st, 2012, at Philly Beer Week’s Opening Tap celebration and tasting, the heavens opened upon Philadelphia in more ways than one. As Mayor Michael A. Nutter and Don Russell, Executive Director of PBW, raised a pint of the just-Hammer of Glory-tapped Brotherly Suds and officially opened PBW 2012, the skies opened up right as the doors to Opening Tap did, as if the rain had arrived to remind everyone that we’d better get inside, there was some serious beer drinking to do. As rain nourishes the Earth, so the souls of the excited crowd would be nourished by the fine brewers’ offerings waiting inside the Independence Visitors Center. Opening Tap is the official opening of Philly Beer Week, perhaps the premiere beer week in the entire United States and the 5th Annual celebration of brewers and their craft lived up to its reputation.

I was here to enjoy the festivities with Beerjobber, in my opinion another incarnation of beer-seeking genius, and its founders, Sean Nevins and Alicia Payne. I’m a long-time beer lover and the offer of a ticket to Opening Tap in return for a guest blog entry seemed like the bargain of a lifetime. From the returnable Latrobe, PA Rolling Rock longnecks of my 20’s (ok maybe late teens but don’t tell my mom) to the amazing and continually growing beer scene in Philadelphia and southeastern Pennsylvania, I pretty much never refuse an invitation for a beer.

We started the evening with Sly Fox Brewing Company and a quite stand-up pour of Hefeweizen Doppelbock, an attractive amber colored offering brewed in the Weizenbock style with a slight banana nose and hint of cloves. We enjoyed a chat with Brewmaster Brian O’Reilly before moving on to Troeg Brewing Company’s table and the sought after keg of Brotherly Suds. Brotherly Suds is a collaborative effort, brewed in the convivial and communal spirit of PBW by a team of brewers from different breweries. The collaboration was a success, and it’s always nice to have a beer that was tapped by the Mayor of Beer, I mean, of Philadelphia. My taxes at work in a way that I can really get behind.

Don’t let the name fool you, the guys at Evil Genius Beer Company are just super nice. They also brew incredible beer. They are also extremely clever in naming the first real standout of the night – Blind Eye PA. Is it a Belgian? Or is it an IPA? What I do know is that it is delicious and unique and if you can guess the hops the super nice guys from Evil Genius will be very impressed. These guys current contract brew, but don’t let that sway you, it’s clear they put their heart and soul into this stuff. Beerjobber is in conversations with Luke and the crew and I know I anxiously await the outcome of those discussions…

And now, the Saizanne Wood from Iron Hill Brewery, runner up for the most interesting taste of the night. Alicia and I grew up in and around Media, PA when it still had a Woolworth’s, Trader Joe didn’t exist, and the current site of Iron Hill’s first restaurant was a dinky supermarket. Well done to this establishment for being a cornerstone of Media’s renaissance and well done to their very talented brewers, their Russian Imperial Stout is a sought after treat for me. But I digress, the Saizanne… this is a fantastic unfiltered Belgian-style farmhouse ale with a gorgeous nose and finish brought on by the use of pink and green peppercorns – spicy! Nicely finished in oak. Also on tap from Iron Hill were Sweet Leaf IPA and Pig Iron Porter, another long-time favorite.

My personal favorite local brewery, Philadelphia Brewing Company, brings me to why I am enamored with the concept of Beerjobber. When I try a beer that I love, I want to share it with all of my friends, many of whom happen to live well-outside of PBC’s craft brew availability range. You must try the awesome session beer, Kenzinger, you must try my seasonal love, Fleur de Lehigh, with its wonderful label featuring Shibe Park, you must try the Joe Coffee Porter, and so I go on… Thanks to PBC for being one of Beerjobber’s brewers and spreading the Philadelphia brewery love! PBC had their standard-setting Walt Wit Belgian-style white ale and Newbold IPA on offer, which we enjoyed thoroughly.

The night’s winner in our group, the “50 Million Timer”, was Fegley’s BrewWorks Framboise. What a pleasure. A very limited amount was available, and therefore the folks from Fegley’s wouldn’t give you a full pour in your sampler glass, but they would invite you to come back for a refill 50 Million times. So we did. This Belgian sour made our taste buds sing as it revealed its playful bouquet in our mouths and made me think that pickling raspberries should be a thing if it isn’t already. The great people from Fegley’s even smiled when we came back for our 51 Millionth taste.

At this point we were getting slightly pickled and bobbly ourselves and so decided to end the night on what we knew would be a high note from Nodding Head Brewery. We had a photo with their bobblehead mascot and a talk with brewery and restaurant owner Curt Decker over a sample of Bill Payer Ale. This amber colored American Pale Ale has a great citrusy front end and a slightly spiced back end and was a great finish to a great evening. Magically, the heavy rain abated for a few minutes and we made our tipsy way into a cab and out into the beer filled city of brotherly love.

Enjoy the rest of Philly Beer Week 2012, and when it’s all over and you’re a little bit sad, try Beerjobber when you have a hankering for a different new brew and get happy again.

Is the Dad in your life the strong and silent type, or a softy? Maybe he’s the life of the party, or rather mellow. Whether outdoorsy, sporty or metro – Dad is the man. For the man who remembers to change the oil in the car, grill the steaks, assemble furniture without losing any pieces, and provide a shoulder to lean on – what better way to show you appreciate him this Father’s Day than with a unique case of beer delivered to him fresh from the brewery? Beerjobber has you covered for gifts of beer that every Dad will love!

Unsure how to combine Dad’s love of craft beer with the special day? The resident Dad’s at beerjobber.com (we have 4) offer the following suggestions (plus we’ve put all of the following beers on sale!):

Father’s Day “Brunch and Beer”

What man doesn’t enjoy a delicious meal with an excellent craft beer? May we suggest our Imperial Java Stout from Santa Fe Brewing Company. This beer’s heavenly flavor and aroma can’t be beat and is the perfect addition to a Father’s Day Brunch of eggs Benedict or French toast. The recommended serving glass for this beer (poured before noon) is a coffee cup!

Dining with Dad al fresco

Linger through a nice meal outside enjoying the warm weather. Honey Basil Ale from Bison Brewing is a perfect summer beer to enjoy on its own, or with a wide variety of your father’s favorite dishes (how about fried chicken, or antipasto). This organic beer is flavorful and thirst quenching at the same time. Stock up, because he’s going to want a few of these!

Backyard BBQ

Bring the whole family together to celebrate with a backyard BBQ. Fire up the grill with sausages, hamburgers, shrimp or chicken kebobs, and whatever else your Dad enjoys. A fragrant, refreshing hefeweizen, such as multiple-award-winning Dry Dock Hefeweizen, pairs well with grilled-vegetables or shellfish. Smoked sausages and red meats work well with a dark, easy-to-drink altbier, such as Erie Brewing’s Heritage Alt Beer. Fowl finds its best match in a rustic, farmhouse-house style ale, like Hilliard’s Saison.

Some Other Recommendations based on Dad’s personality:

The Fisherman – Made by fishermen to be taken out on the stream, Madison River Brewery in Montana crafts a Scotch ale like no other, brewed using the finest smoked malt for flavor complexity (but not too much, making it very drinkable). This is a great beer for dad to savor while enjoying his favorite pastime.

The Adventurist- Upslope has several great brews to perfectly suited to a camping trip, rafting trip, or even an afternoon hike! The variety case gives you some of each.

The Sports Guy- A serene balance of malt and hops, Crank Yanker IPA from Eddyline is perfect for the dad who believes in “going big”. Whether he’s had a day of going big or wants a beer that can back that adrenaline-filled day, Crank Yanker IPA is the beer for him.

The Life of the Party- For the Dad who is always on top of the current trends and knows all the hot spots in town we recommend Narragansett Lager. Brewed just right for drinking-crisp and refreshing, Narragansett lager is one of the most drinkable beers in the world.

The Golfer- American Blonde by American Brewing Company is perfect for the Dad who enjoys a round of golf. This light refreshing, full-bodied blonde ale is perfect for a Dad who’s just coming off the links.

Beer-nut Dad who’s tried everything-For this type of Dad we recommend VooDoo Variety Case #1 a great pack of four amazing beers: White Magick, 4 Seasons IPA, Pilzilla, and Wynona’s Big Brown Ale. Wonderfulπ brewery tucked into central Pennsylvania with very limited distribution. Trust us, he won’t be disappointed!

And for the Do-it-yourself Dad, may we suggest one of our Beerjobber gift certificates? Let Dad browse our Brewery Fresh market and choose his own case to suit his mood!

Please use the comments to share what beer you’re getting the Dad in your life!

Cheers!

Yes, Memorial Day Weekend is the unofficial start to summer, but let’s not forget what Monday is really about; commemorating and remembering the men and women that protect our country and the American ideals of freedom. As a company that offers only American crafted beers, we at Beerjobber recognize the need to give back and honor the great men and women who have fought tirelessly for our country. It is our privilege to support veterans and servicemen, which include many of our brewers, particularly the man behind Cavalry Brewing.

Mike McCreary, owner-brewer of Cavalry, survived the economic hardship of 2008, as well as war. Forced to redirect his life’s effort, Mike channeled his energy into his true passion in life, beer. Mike started a brewery named Cavalry, in part to share the experience of his service in the U.S. military. On active duty for three years, and in the Army Reserves for 19 years, Mike was deployed to Iraq in early 2003, leaving his pregnant wife behind. As a Civil Affairs officer in Baghdad, Mike and his fellow servicemen fortunately made it back alive, despite extremely dangerous close calls. As a tribute to the servicemen who became his best friends, and all the soldiers who fight for America, Mike decided to honor them through his craft.

Cavalry beers are brewed using traditional English methods on American equipment to create fresh and flavorful ales and stouts that entice even the most discerning palate. Each product is a balance between the barley and the hops to provide an easy drinking ale or stout.

Moreover, Cavalry’s beer names all have a unique story and we invite you to have a closer look at them by visiting The Cavalry Brewing Corner.

Here’s a sampling of the Cavalry beers available on beerjobber.com

Dog Soldier Golden Ale: Fine golden ale while light in color, with citrus aromas.

Hatch Plug Ale: Classic English ale made with pale malt, providing fruity aromas to work with the subtle malt flavors.

Marauder IPA: Grainy maltiness with aromas of figs and lemon grass. Earthy, with a smooth bitter finish.

X’ Limited Edition: Extra special, extra strong English Pale Ale. In the military an ‘X’ means it’s experimental. Like a missile, this beer will only be launched if YOU the drinker deem it so.

Variety Pack: 4 great styles, including the Limited Release and the Seasonal !

So as you celebrate Memorial Day Weekend, remember what the holiday is really about; honoring men and women like Mike McCreary. We encourage everyone to take time to give back to these brave soldiers and veterans any way they can.

We thank these brave men for their service to our great country !

The men of Cavalry: Mike Owner/Brewer, Hatch Plug, Nomad, and Big Wally.

Because fresh is best, beerjobber brings Heretic beer beyond the borders of California to your front door with an exclusive offer in celebration of American Craft Beer Week. The spirit of American Craft Beer Week swells from the men and women who pour their heart and soul into their creations – creations as different, special, and as unique as the brewers themselves. Beerjobber is proud to help get these beers into your hands, fresh from the creators.

Heretic beers live up to the name, they are not ordinary. Brewed by the accomplished home-brewer and celebrated author Jamil Zainasheff, Heretic beers are big and bold beers that provide a transcending experience for the drinker. They are that good.

For American Craft Beer Week, we offer our fans a chance to embrace their inner heretic and experience these far-from-ordinary beers fresh from the brewer.

Evil Twin was originally created for “pro night” at the Home Brewer’s Conference in San Diego a year ago. This blood-red ale is unexpected from a malty and hoppy craft beer. Evil Twin has a rich malt character, but is not overly sweet. It has a huge hop character, but not overly bitter. It is a great example of a bold, rich, balanced craft beer that is easy to drink.

Evil Cousin is Heretic’s take on a West coast imperial IPA. It’s a bold, in-your-face hop monster. The light, easy drinking malt character allows the hops to stand out. The hop character in this beer is intentionally on the dank side; big, sticky, and aggressive. This beer is for those who can’t get enough hops.

Shallow Grave Porter is Heretic’s newest release; dark as night, perfect for a cool evening out in the woods. This a big, dark ale with a complex, rich, chocolate and caramel malt character, followed by a touch of warmth and light malt sweetness. Sinfully good, you will want more.

These are unique beers, and to honor them calls for no ordinary “sale”.

For a limited time, beerjobber will offer 50% off a case of Heretic (including the variety case, which contains all 3 beers) – fresh from the bottling line to your door.

Quantities limited; this exclusive offer won’t last!

As you know, Beerjobber adds breweries website based on requests from our members. And we are at the Craft Brewers Conference in San Diego all week, where practically every brewer in the country will be. So we thought, “Why not let our members play matchmaker?” And what better way to say Thank You to our matchmakers than with free beer?

So here’s how you can help get the beer you’ve been wanting to see on the site, and get some of it for free in the process: Send a Tweet or Facebook post TO your favorite brewer asking them to come talk to us this week in San Diego. (We’re easy to spot because of our distinctive Beerjobber Shirts, plus we’re co-hosing the Late Night Hospitality event Thursday and Friday).

If that brewer talks to us and we are able to work things out so that we can offer their beers on the site, we’ll randomly pick from the people who helped us and send out the first case from that brewer, on us! And yes, we’re sending a free case from each brewer we start working with this week.

You can send multiple tweets/FB posts each to a different brewer, but make sure you include @beerjobber in your tweet or tag us on Facebook so we can make sure we know that you were one of the matchmakers when we’re selecting a recipient for the free beer.

So reach out to your favorite brewers, let them know you’re a fan, that you want to see them on beerjobber, and ask them to find us in San Diego. You could be getting the first case, delivered right to your door, brewery fresh!

And if you included a friend on the Tweet or Facebook post we pick for free beer, we’ll send that person a case too! They don’t even need to be a Member (but both of you need to be in zipcodes we service.)

Cheers!
